Once upon a time I visited San Francisco.
It's a lovely city. And aside from all those hills, it's a joy to walk around.
But the best part of San Francisco was not the piers with the sea lions, or Ghiardelli Square, or City Lights bookstore or even that fabulous music shop A Lark in the Morning.
No.
The best part of San Francisco for me was going to Japantown and eating Dreyer's Green Tea ice cream.
It didn't matter what we were doing when we were in San Francisco - if someone asked what I wanted to do I would say,
"Eat green tea ice cream."
There are many different types of green tea ice cream out there when you start looking. But none of them taste as wonderful as the ice cream I had in San Francisco.
When I got back to the East Coast I did some research and found out that Dreyer's Ice Cream is the same as Edy's.
But does Edy's have Green Tea?
No.
Oh, I went to Mitsuwa's in Edgewater NJ and sampled all the types of green tea ice cream they sell. Most of them were tasty. But not the same.
By now I know you're wondering if this tale has a happy ending or if I'm just going bitch and moan about ice cream for the whole post, for crying-out-loud.
And thankfully I can tell you that there is a happy ending to this tale.
After pining away for my beloved green tea ice cream for, oh I don't know, nine years! I finally found a replacement.
The last time I went to Whole Foods I noticed that Boulder Ice Cream has a Green Tea flavor. Of course I bought it.
And...
It's delicious! It's what I've been waiting for! It is my San Francisco trip wrapped in cream and sugar and ... green tea.
There could be more to this tale of creamy frostiness but it's breakfast time and I can think of nothing better to do
but
eat
green tea
ice cream!
