My first meme.
Glennia over at The Silent I tagged me for A Virtual Birthday Party in honor of her birthday this week. I was chosen along with Ana of Bonggamom, Pamela H. & Jill A. of Silicon Valley Moms Blog, Pierre of MetroDad, and Kate of Itisi. Glennia was tagged by CityMama for what was originally called A Virtual Cocktail Party.
It's a game of Blog-Tag that requires you to write five things about yourself that your readers may not know, and tag five other bloggers to do the same.
Well, OK then.
This is an interesting task for me, because I regularly rip out all the soft and squishy bits of my intestines and place them lovingly on the blog for all who are interested. But still I suppose the majority of my readers do not know:
1. I prefer to read non-fiction, mostly memoirs and biographies. Some of my favorites: Darkness Visible by William Styron, Sickened by Julie Gregory, Desert Exile by Yoshiko Uchida, Welfare Brat by Mary Childers, and The Liars' Club by Mary Karr.
2. I really love eating "finger food". A meal where no utensils are used is heaven. Pizza, fried wontons, musubi, sushi, spanikopita (ok, maybe you aren't supposed to eat that with your hands - don't tell), nachos, quesadillas, and really anything to do with cheese.
3. I make art out of junk. Mostly my junk, but not only mine. Old pallets, buttons, credit cards, shoes, keys and locks figure in my art. Once I brought home a white bumper that had fallen off of a car. (I still don't know what to do with that one.)
4. I talk for my pets. Daniel thinks I really know what they are thinking when I make squeaky high-pitched voices for them and tell him what they want at any given moment. For example: Bird #1 says,"Ooh, what is that you are playing on the computer Daniel? I love all the colors and the funny sounds it's making. Can you tell me how you do that?" (At which point Daniel will turn to the bird and start a long conversation with it on the mechanics of the particular game or art program he is using.) Here's another one: Cat #2 says "Daniel I'm really nervous. There are a lot of suitcases in the bedroom and everybody is busy putting things in them. Are you going away? Are we moving? What's going on?" (Daniel will then sit on the floor next to the cat and patiently explain that we are going on a trip, but that we will be back in exactly 4 days.) Someday he's going to look at me like I'm nuts when I do this, but so far it has really helped him to deal with transitions and practice empathizing with how other creatures (and people) are feeling.
5. I don't care for jewelry. I've worn the same earrings for years (I never take them off). And the necklace I really like right now I bought for four dollars on my last vacation. Go figure.
There you go.
And now to tag five others. I choose Brian at Looky Daddy, Karen at Notes from the Cookie Jar, Kyra at This Mom, Amy at Everything is Unfinished, and Claire at Copabananas. You're it!
(If you've been tagged and want to play, leave a link in the comments so we can check it out!)
