Our bedtime routine is interminably long.
Go up to the bedroom at 7 in hopes that the child will be sound asleep by 9.
-Two hours -
But it takes him a long time to settle down. And we usually read a few chapters from a book while he eats a snack.
After he climbs into bed he reads a chapter to himself by flash light. (I am hoping that someday he will simply read himself to sleep ... but I fear he may be in college before that happens)
Last night after all the reading was completed, and the lights were out, I was lying on his small sofa in preparation for singing him to sleep like usual.
But before I could start, Daniel sat up in bed and we had the following conversation:
"Mom?"
"Yes."
"I have to tell you something."
"OK, why don't you lie down while you tell me."
"Well, what I have to tell you is..."
"Yes..."
"Well, you see, Dad is really good at games, and the computer and pretending to be someone else and fun stuff... but, Mom?"
"Yes, what is it?"
"Well, Mom, you are better at LOVE and snuggling and all the loving things."
"Oh. Thank you. Are you trying to ask me to climb into your bed and snuggle?"
"No. I mean yes. Well, I DO want to snuggle, but I don't NEED to snuggle."
"OK. I can snuggle with you tonight. You know, your Dad loves you with all his heart."
"Well, he must have learned it from you when you got married."
After we had done a little snuggling, (which, truth be told, is a way to do a little OT work with deep pressure), Daniel turned to me and said, "It's good to snuggle now, because it's February, and that's the month of LOOOVE!"

that is sooooo sweet!

Awwww...very cute. Mine, even though he's 12 now, still likes to snuggle on the couch. I miss the bedtime snuggles, but he's almost as big as me!

Can I trade one of mine with Daniel for a few days? :)

Can't these boys just be the sweetest things sometimes? I never expect it, and it hits me out of the blue when it happens, but I'm thinkin' I'm lovin' my 9 year-old. He may not want anyone to know it, but in the quiet before bedtime, he still loves him mamma.
