The weather was beautiful.
It was a long holiday weekend.
Families were getting together for barbecues, bike rides and trips to the beach.
And we were in the emergency room ... again.
This time?
I mean who gets scarlet fever these days? (I thought that was just something Mary Ingalls got out on the prairie)
Daniel.
Daniel is the official getter of scarlet fever in our family.
And THAT my friends, is why there was vomiting last Friday.
On a positive note - We were able to watch four hours of Nickelodeon as a family on Saturday in the waiting room of the ER. I had never seen Ned's Declassified before. (And dear god I hope I never have to again)
So, he must take penicillin for many days and all will be fine again. No blindness, no rheumatic fever, no burning of the toys. Man, they sure got dramatic about scarlet fever in the old days.
Daniel is feeling fine now and it looks as though no one else is going to come down with it. I have been looking at my throat in the bathroom mirror with a flashlight several times a day since Daniel was diagnosed though. Just to make sure. I really think that if someone was to have an ugliest throat contest, I would win. But no spots at least!
Although I DO have an anxiety-induced scratchy throat right now.

Scarlet Fever? It takes a dedicated child to contract that. Next stop? Coxsackie!

OMG - poor child! Poor you! Who'd a thunk it? I thought scarlet fever had gone the way of the wind.

My son has contracted Scarlett Fever from School twice in the last 2 months. Doctors say it's rife in the area. Get it from kids sneezing - droplets who already have it.
