Yesterday I spent Thanksgiving in my pajamas.
All day.
My husband and I took turns sleeping, while the other one stayed with Daniel. Our Thanksgiving turkey looked like it had been through a shrink-ray.
But I think it's safe to say that we were more thankful this year than usual. And it wasn't hard to count our blessings.
You see on Wednesday we started our annual pilgrimage to New Hampshire Nova Scotia. We left early so we would miss most of the traffic. Which we did. By midday we were on, let's just say a major east coast highway, outside of a major east coast city. Traffic was not too bad for the day before Thanksgiving.
And then.
We were hit. We bounced. The car seemed to ricochet. We were hit again. Hard. I may have screamed at some point. Daniel was yelling about car damage. We were shaken up and bruised, but there were no broken bones and no blood. I am thankful for that.
Somehow my husband got the car to side of the road with last life it had in it. I am thankful for that.
My door wouldn't open so I climbed in the back with Daniel and tried to console him as he cried and asked what would happen next over and over. Poor kid. As an adult you know that in emergencies the situation will just lead you to the next step and all you need to do is follow glassy-eyed. But Daniel's anxiety kicked into high gear.
Then:
the police
the tow truck
the insurance
the rental car agency
the drive back home
the emergency room
and sweet sweet sleep in our own beds.
Everyone we met up with was very nice to us. I am thankful for that.
I knew we would be pretty incapacitated by the next day so I insisted that we drive back home right away before our necks and backs and shoulders started to tense up completely. It was not fun.
There is more to the story. But it will have to wait. The aftermath of this will involve many headaches, and that's just dealing with my family who I didn't see this year for Thanksgiving - the first year ever. The insurance is sure to be a hassle too.

Oh no!
I'm glad you are all okay! That must have been so scary for all of you, but especially Daniel.
Get lots of rest and your family will understand, I'm sure.

Yikes! I'm glad everyone is okay. Car wrecks are not fun and I suggest you not have one again, okay?

I can tell you that I will do my darnedest to not have another accident again. But I can't speak for all those that drive near me. Unfortunately.

Oh no! So sorry you all had to go through that, and glad that no one was injured.
